akh

The akh is the “magically effective one”, or the “living intellect”.  With the proper burial rites, the ba (personality) and ka (vital essence) of a deceased person are reunited to reanimate the akh. The spells in the Book of Coming Forth By Day that deal with preventing death of the traveler are about avoiding the death of the akh, which would be a second death for the traveler.
