The ib is the heart. The heart was believed to be the seat of emotion, thought, will, and intention. We still carry this tradition with expressions like “broken-hearted”, “kind-hearted”, and so on. The ib is what is weighed against the feather of Ma’at at the final judgement in the Hall of Two Truths.
