Atenism, or the monotheistic worship of the sun disc Aten, was declared the official state religion by the pharaoh Akhenaten in the 18th dynasty. The cult of Atenism was considered the “Great Heresy”, and was completely disbanded and replaced with the old polytheistic Kemetic religion after Akhenaten’s death.
