Pharaoh Sobekneferu: Queen of Scepters

Sobekneferu, whose name means “the beauty of Sobek,” reigned as pharaoh after the death of her brother Amenemhat IV. The first attested female ruler of Kemet, she was the last ruler of the Twelfth Dynasty and the final pharaoh of the Golden Age. Though her reign was short, lasting less than 4 years, she had several architectural achievements including Amenemhat III’s funerary complex and structures at Heracleopolis Magna.
